Must Have Outrageous Outfit

Call me crazy, but there is something about these sequin pants that is outrageously appealing. Actually the whole outfit is calling my name. I love the mix of sequins and chambray and cashmere – even the camel coat looks like it would go a thousand fashion miles. (Camel coats usually do go a thousand miles, but this one is a long way from the one my mother wore into the ground…)

I’d love to recreate this look and take it for a spin. I’m just wondering how many “she must be off her meds today” looks I’d get at the grocery store or in carpool line. This is why I have to move to Paris. People dress like this every day in the City of Lights.

Did I mention that the pants are on sale at Shopbop…

I Want This Outfit…

I am in LOVE with everything about this look:

The dress is perfect (both the one being worn AND the one being shown!) The color is the most wonderful shade of rosy nude and likely compliments about a thousand different skin tones. The moto jacket – what can I say. Perfection. Goes everywhere, goes with everything…goes the distance. The booties…again…perfect (I’ve used that word too many times – let’s try awesome…) If these booties can make a maxi dress/ball gown look this amazing, image what they will do for the rest of your wardrobe. Even the accessories are fantastic in their simplicity. It makes me want to go find a vintage black clutch to tuck saucily under my arm while I saunter off to the latest show at New York Fashion Week…Oh, right, back to my real life…

Even the hair, sunglasses and make up are uber cool – approachable, attainable and beautiful.

Giving credit where credit is due, here are the shopping details as reported by Refinery 29…

Product Review: Avon Nailwear PRO Nail Enamel – A Carnival of Colors

I had the opportunity to try three shades from Avon’s new “A Carnival of Colors” Pro Nail Enamel collection, which feature six bright, bold shades that are perfect for spring and summer. For my full review, please keep reading after the break.

First Look

The shades I received were Aqua Fantasy (a pale pastel blue shade,) Fuchsia Fun (bright pink) and Sweet Mint (a yellow-green.) The colors I was unable to try are Orange Creamsicle, Loving Lavender and Blue Escape. I’ve always loved bold nail color, so I was excited to try these and see how well they worked. For the purpose of this review, I used all three shades at once to make testing them simultaneously a lot easier on me. I’ve also decided to write this review in a Q&A format to make it easier for you to find the information you’re looking for regarding these polishes.

Q&A Review

1. How Many Coats do you Need?

I used two coats until the color was opaque (meaning, not sheer or see-through; I hate visible nail line.) I could probably have used a third coat for an extra pop, but you can definitely get away with two semi-thick coats. Just make sure to let each coat dry before applying the next one, or you’ll end up with a thick, goopy, non-drying mess. Let me just say that I really like Avon’s nail polish brushes; they’re not too thin or too wide and they are super easy to use. Plus, the color was GORGEOUS.

2. How Long Does it Last?

Avon states that the polish can last up to 10 days with normal touch-ups, and I found that to be roughly the case. Normally, I change my polish every 2 to 3 days because I get bored, and the slightest tip wear drives me nuts. However, for the purpose of this review I wanted to leave the polish on for the full 10 days to really test its longevity. I also used a base coat on one hand only to test the polish with and without a base coat.

On the hand with the base coat, the polish lasted noticeably longer than on the hand without. I was able to get a full three days of wear with no visible tip wear or chipping, and then just touched it up with a clear topcoat every couple of days to make it shiny. On the hand with no base coat, the polish was starting to chip halfway through the second day.

Overall, I’d say you can get away with about a week of relatively decent wear, but after the 7th day (even doing my regular touch-ups) I could notice very visible tip wear.

3. How Long Does it Take to Dry?

For me, I waited about 5 minutes between each coat (first coat, second coat, then top coat.) Afterwards, I didn’t touch anything for an hour because I wanted to make sure my nails were fully set before I did anything. My nails were surface dry after about 20 minutes, though – however, they could still have gotten dinged or smudged if I had done anything really intensive with my hands, like washing dishes or typing.

Overall

Overall, I am really pleased with these Carnival nail colors. They’re bright and bold and look super cute on fingers or toes. I would definitely recommend using a base coat, and reapplying a shiny top coat every 2-3 days to keep your manicure looking fresh and glossy. I think the wear on these is decent – definitely comparable to more expensive brands, especially if you take care to do regular touch-ups. If you are a fan of bright colors, these are definitely for you! I’ll be wearing these shades throughout the spring and summer months, and I am definitely going to have to pick up the other three shades in the collection. If you’ve used these, please let me know what you thought!

The Most Amazing Make Up…Ever…

About a million years ago when I was in high school, Clinique came out with a Lip Shine that wasn’t a matte lipstick or a gloss, but a combination of the two, which instantly became a hit with women everywhere. One of the colors offered was #16, Black Honey. What was so amazing about this particular color is that it flatters EVERYONE – regardless of your skin tone or eye color or your lip shape and texture. Black Honey is probably one of make up history’s great all time achievements! And now the color is being translated in to a Shimmering Tones Powder that may rank up there as make up history’s all time great achievement #2.

Clinique Shimmering Tones Powder in Black Honey

Clinique’s Black Honey Shimmering Tones Powder is a limited edition, multitone powder. The cult favorite Black Honey shimmers in this beautifully blended powder, instantly creating a sheer, subtle radiance that looks great on everyone, just like the classic that inspired it.

Believe me, this powder is like magic. I’ve been sick for the past few days, and when I looked in the mirror this morning my skin resembled a cross between the Crypt Keeper and Princess Fiona (after she married Shrek…) Two swipes of this shimmering powder and, damn, if I didn’t look healthy and vibrant! It’s even better on a good day, giving you just enough sparkle that people say, “Wow, you look great…did you cut your hair or something…?” I don’t know what it is about the Black Honey color, but it does something magical and it works for everyone and with every skin tone.

Available for a limited time only through Sephora, Shimmering Tones Powder in Black Honey retails for $32.50 – and it’s well worth the investment!

Fashion White is the New Fashion Black

Another look I’m totally loving, courtesy of Shopbop at New York Fashion Week…

Note to self…must get a bright colored clutch for spring… Which I’ll do after I figure out how to incorporate white (which I guess is the new black) into my practical wardrobe. Although something tells me that the brightly colored clutch will get more wear time than a white frock, but whatever…these looks are beautiful and unique and something to strive for.

The Fashionable Team wants to know…do you wear white? Is it a staple of your wardrobe? (And we don’t mean just T-shirts!) Leave us a comment and let us know…

Maxi Makes a Comeback for Spring

I’m so glad that maxi skirts are here to stay for another season. There is something so easy yet so chic about a maxi skirt. Topped with a fitted T and a smart blazer, you can practically conquer the world in this kind of outfit. And it goes everywhere, and looks appropriate in about 99% of the places you need to be at any given time. Plus, if you haven’t been so diligent about your workouts this winter, a maxi skirt will hide a multitude of sins until you are back in bikini form. I found two of my favorite maxi skirt looks while playing “If the internet were my closet” game:

Isn’t the print stunning! I love the 50s vibe with the high waist and the wide belt. You could dress this down with a white T and a jean jacket and still look just as fresh and chic as paired with a silk blouse and patent pumps.

I love the 70s boldness of this skirt. It reminds me of an outfit that my mother used to wear. (Too bad she was about 3 sizes smaller than me or I’d try to dig though old boxes and find it!) This skirt too can be dressed up or down and can log a thousand fashion miles for you.

Cusp has a great selection of long skirts on their web site. I love the bright boho prints of these two skirts. They make me think of lazy days in a hammock under a palm tree!
